Q: CAN I USE DEIONIZED WATER IN NORTH SLOPE CHILLERS?
A: For the most part, deionized water is corrosive to metals like bronze, copper, brass, iron, and steel, and would damage the system. However, if necessary, North Slope Chillers is able to engineer custom systems that are suitable for deionized water.
Q: HOW MANY BTU’S ARE NEEDED TO COOL 55 GALLONS OF WATER AT 60°F, DOWN TO 45°F?
A: BTU (British thermal unit) is the amount of heat or cooling needed to raise or lower 1ºF in 1 pound of water, at 1 atmosphere.
How to calculate the BTU requirement of water:
BTU = Gallons x Temperature Change (°F) x 8.33
To cool 100 gallons of water from 60°F down to 45°Fº—a difference of 15°F—you would multiply 100 Gallons x 15°F temperature change x 8.33 = 12,506 BTU.
How to calculate heat removal rate (BTU/hr) from water:
BTU/hr = Gallons x Temperature Change (°F) x 8.33 / Time (hrs)
For example: If you wanted to cool the same 100 gallons of water from 60°F to 45°Fº in 30 minutes—a difference of 15°F—would mean 100 Gallons x 15°F change x 8.33 / (1/2 hour) = 25,012 BTU/hr rate of heat removal.

A: North Slope offers repair services on all chillers and blankets. These services are free within the product warranty. Post-warranty expiration repairs come with service charges.
